The way the tests are made are similar, so if you study for one then you could do pretty well on the other.
I was not naturally blessed on my first time taking the SAT. I did no preparations at all and just decided to take it. I did and, as you can see, I did not score well: 1440 out of 1600. I bombed the writing portion and my only 99th percentile was from my Math section. If you're aiming for the top-level colleges, you should have 99th percentile in almost everything for standardized tests. It's probably around 1500 overall and you'll be fine.Īfter this test, I did take SAT prep class for a couple of months and you can see that I significantly improved. I went from 1440 to 1530 and I scored in the 99th percentile of almost everything. The only one that's not is the overall score. I think once you reach a certain threshold, it doesn't really matter for colleges. You shouldn't really stress too much about getting that extra couple points to reach the perfect score. I got a composite score of 35 for my English, Math, Reading, and Science scores.

My school offered it for free so I decided to take it. I got lucky because 35 is a pretty good score. I'll say this again: you really shouldn't stress out about your test scores too much. If you go on the Rice website and look at the admission stats for my class, you can see that for ACT I scored a 35 which already puts me in the 75th percentile of the class.
33 was 25th percentile so around 34 is a good enough score where you don't have to worry about those two extra points. I could have just submitted my ACT, but the reason I submitted both even though my SAT was worse was that I just want to show colleges that I did take the time to improve my SAT score. I don't know if it helped me or not but if there’s not too much difference between two scores, I say just go ahead and submit both of them. Our school also participated in the PSAT which is an SAT that you take in your sophomore year in high school.
